Save the Children Deploying Emergency Response Team to Help Kids Threatened by Powerful Hurricane Ida
FAIRFIELD, Conn. (August 29, 2021) — As Hurricane Ida brings life-threatening winds and flood-inducing rains across Louisiana and southern Mississippi, Save the Children is mobilizing its emergency response team to help children and families living in areas that will be hardest hit by the treacherous storm.
Having pre-positioned critical supplies before the storm, Save the Children stands ready to provide essential items to help impacted families continue to care for their children – including hygiene kits, diapers, wipes and portable cribs. The nonprofit’s emergency response staff is coordinating with national and state partners to assess children’s immediate needs in response to Hurricane Ida.
“Children are always among the most vulnerable when disaster strikes, and our thoughts and hearts go out to children and families in the pathway of this dangerous storm,” said Jeanne-Aimee De Marrais, Save the Children’s senior director for U.S. Emergencies. “Save the Children is committed to helping kids get the support they need, both in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Ida and long-term.”
In addition, Save the Children will be collaborating with local education partners in Louisiana and Mississippi to help restore child care and early learning centers that may be impacted by Hurricane Ida.
As the national leader in protecting children in emergencies, Save the Children has been supporting children’s most critical needs in emergencies in Louisiana and on the Gulf Coast since 2005, including Hurricanes Katrina, Harvey, and Laura. Save the Children also has early learning and education programs in Louisiana nd Mississippi, working to help children succeed in school and life.
By contributing to Save the Children’s Hurricane Ida Children’s Relief Fund, you can help us protect vulnerable children and provide desperately needed relief to families.
