Make Childhood Fair

For kids living in poverty, childhood isn’t fair. Children across rural America are missing out on early learning opportunities. Without access to essential resources, many start kindergarten 18 months behind their peers. That’s why Save the Children works in the most remote communities- to bridge learning gaps, help kids build strong foundations and make childhood fair!

A Brighter Future for Ahmad

mcf-brighter-futures-ahmad.jpg

Learning opportunities are scarce in Ahmad’s small Mississippi town. Children living in rural parts of the United States are especially likely to face the double jeopardy of growing up in poverty and not having had the opportuinty to develop their basic literary skills in elementary school.

When the first grader started falling behind in class, his mom didn’t know where to turn.

Until she met Ms. Ellis, a specialist from Save the Children – and Ahmad’s new “best friend." Ms. Ellis helped Ahmad build confidence, sharpen his literacy skills and jump 22 percentile points in reading!

“I love to read poems and find words with the same beginning and end sounds,” Ahmad says today.

Ahmad's progress is proof that with the right support, every child can thrive. The key to fostering a love for learning is engaging children early while improving access to and quality of education in America.
