Field visit to Save the Children’s Southern Rural US Programs: A donor’s reflection.
Erin Dempster is a member of the Fairfield County Leadership Council, a local ambassador of Save the Children’s work in her community. She recently traveled with other council members to a field visit in Orangeburg County, South Carolina and she shared her sentiments:
“It was truly my honor and privilege to spend the day with the Save the Children team at Bethune-Bowman Elementary School in Orangeburg County, South Carolina. I was overwhelmed by the limitless kindness, the enthusiasm, and the extraordinary work ethic of the entire Save the Children family. During the reading enrichment class, I was able to engage with students during their lesson. It warmed my heart to see the excitement and the energy focused on READING! Watching their confidence grow as readers and individuals was so inspiring! During the After School Program, I had the pleasure of participating in the physical fitness part of their afternoon. We played an enthusiastic game that encouraged physical activity and social interaction while having a ton of fun. The energy during this activity was contagious and the smiles on the students’ faces will forever stay in my heart.
Thank you to the entire Save the Children team for allowing me to witness your passion, dedication, and commitment to the children of Orangeburg County. You are all exemplary individuals who have my complete admiration and respect.”
